Volunteering at the Ballona Wetlands


An experienced project management professional, Andrew Jares Oldfield has served as the construction superintendent for Holder Construction in Atlanta, Georgia, since 2016. Outside of his work in the construction industry, Andrew Jares Oldfield stands out as a committed conservationist who has volunteered to help preserve bird habitats at Ballona Wetlands, a sanctuary that’s home to various types of wildlife. 

For nearly two decades, the Friends of Ballona Wetlands has maintained the habitat for all of the animals that live in the wetlands. The organization has spearheaded numerous volunteer efforts that have removed more than 450 tons harmful plants, garbage, and other debris from the area. Volunteer cleanup crews take to the area on the fourth Saturday of every month in these restoration efforts. 

In addition to removing harmful materials, the group has re-introduced a number of native plants to the area. These plants have thrived in their natural ecosystem and now make up an important part of the sanctuary, providing both food and shelter for the animals within. The Stunning Apple Park


An experienced project manager, Andrew Jares Oldfield is a top graduate of the Level 6 Apprentice program of the Iron Workers Union Local 416. In 2016, Andrew Jares Oldfield was appointed construction superintendent of Holder Construction, responsible for all top-level mechanical and plant operations in the completion of Apple Park. 

In 2006, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would establish Campus 2, the company’s future headquarters. Construction on the new 175-acre Apple Park, located around 1 mile from the Cupertino, California headquarters, commenced in late 2013. The centerpiece of the development site is the massive 2.8-million-square-foot, four-story, circular company headquarters, dubbed as the spaceship and reputed to be one of the world’s most energy efficient buildings. 

Designed by the architectural firm Foster + Partners, the estimated $5-billion Apple Park campus also has 17 megawatts of rooftop solar power, completely run by renewable energy, a 100,000-square-foot fitness center, a public visitor center showcasing an augmented reality experience, and the underground 1,000-seat Steve Jobs Theater. Phased movement of employees began in April 2017 and the campus will eventually house over 12,000 people. Already a tourist attraction, the project is like no other as the new headquarters building, as a measure against earthquake, can move by over four feet.

Highlights of Apple’s New Headquarters


An experienced construction manager, Andrew Jares Oldfield has served as a construction superintendent with Holder Construction since 2016. Andrew Jares Oldfield’s recent work with the company includes serving as a construction project manager for the new Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California. 

As the base of operations for more than 12,000 Apple employees, Apple Park features an open-plan layout that supports collaboration between different departments. The 175-acre campus is also home to secure research and development facilities, an employee fitness center, and grounds that include walking and running paths, as well as an orchard, meadow, and pond. 

The dominant structure at the multi-billion dollar Apple Park is the ring-shaped main building, which circles more than one mile around the property and offers 2.8 million square feet of interior space. The futuristic building also features the world’s largest curved glass panels. 

In addition to the innovative architectural design and landscaping, the Apple Park campus boasts energy-efficient facilities that run entirely on renewable energy. Power for the facilities is provided by 17 megawatts of rooftop solar energy and a low-carbon central power plant located on site.
